TRIPPY TRAP
🎬 Official Synopsis 🎬

Trippy Trap is the debut music video from Storyboard Dee, released in 2018 as part of Wokege.Dee. Shot on an iPhone from real parties lived throughout the year and produced in GarageBand, the record is a layered universal truths and lifestyle narrative built on double and triple entendres.

“All the footage in the video was from real nights I actually lived, everywhere from NY to LA, Japan to South Korea – all shot on my iPhone. I edited the whole thing myself which allowed me to get the video how I wanted it. I put the song together in GarageBand with an instrumental from my friend, Cleveland Thrasher. Many times you don’t need a huge budget or team to create, we are enabled more than ever with the tools we have today. I never want to limit my ideas to what I have versus what I can create, even if it’s just a concept to get out. Everything is an iteration if you want to refine, but at a certain point you have to put something out there, even if that something is you." — Storyboard Dee

Official music video for “Trippy Trap” by Storyboard Dee. Created from real party footage captured throughout 2018.

Trippy Trap turns a party record into a visual world part nightlife diary, part Detroit love letter, part self-mythology. The original treatment described the premise simply when Dee is at a party, “it isn’t your regular universe,” A central location in the project’s visual language was Deluxx Fluxx, which opened its first permanent immersive art, arcade, bar, and music venue in Downtown Detroit during the summer of 2018. The venue’s neon-heavy arcade rooms, blacklight atmosphere, music programming, and underground setting mirrored the song’s layered themes of love, intoxication, nightlife, and performance.
